Saturday 7 August 2021 we will participate in the Amsterdam Pride Walk as a Trans Healthcare Now! block. Join us at 11.30 AM at the Martin Luther Kingpark
We want a structurally different system of transition care based on self determination and decentralisation. For decades now, we have faced endless waiting lists, outdated and humiliating diagnostic procedures, incompetence and abuses of power. A structural change in transgender care is necessary.
In the past weeks, after our demos on 26 June and 2 July, we have seen a significant shift in the conversation and several motions in parliament about decentralizing transgender healthcare. We celebrate these successes, but the fight is far from over and will be decided not by politicians but by trans people themselves. That is why we are calling for a summer full of action. Join us on august 7th, but also: make your own plan and take action! There are already several local initiatives being worked on. More about that later… but first, the Pride Walk!
Route and accessibility
You can find an image of the route below. The march will start at the Martin Luther King park at 12 and will arrive at the Central Station around 4pm. The route will be 4 to 5 kilometers. Of course not everyone can walk that distance so we will once again try to arrange transport.
Please contact us if:
– You think you might want to have a seat on one of our cargo bikes.
– You want to be the cyclist on one of our cargo bikes. (you will have to be an hour early to help pick up the bike and stay about an hour longer to help return it).
– You use a wheelchair and would like assistance from a volunteer so you do not have to manually move yourself the whole route.
– You want to assist a wheelchair user during the route. (Keep in mind that you may not be able to walk with your own friends, as you will need to stay close to the person you’re assisting. You will receive a brief instruction on consent-based wheelchair support.)
Do you need something else? let us know. We’ll see what we can do for you.
Covid measures
As we are still in a pandemic, COVID prevention measures are in place during out block in the Pride Walk. This means that we ask each attendee to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth and keep 1.5 meters distance from other attendees. We ask everybody in our block to do this regardless of state regulations or guidelines at the larger event. We want to prioritize the safety of the most vulnerable. This should go without saying, but: if you have any symptoms resembling COVID, please stay at home. We will also provide disinfectant and face masks.
